Liverpool midfielder Fabinho will not be leaving the club for Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid and is almost certain to start against Norwich City on Friday, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper claims that reports claiming that the 25-year-old had agreed a five-year deal with Zinedine Zidane’s side in a £60million transfer are wildly inaccurate.

Journalist Jose Luis Vergara first report the link on his personal Twitter account earlier this week, but it has now been very firmly knocked down by the regional paper.

Instead, the Echo expects the Brazilian, on a reported £100,000-per-week [Source: Spotrac], to be in the Reds starting eleven to face the newly promoted Canaries at Anfield.

OPINION

It never seemed likely that Fabinho was really going to be moving to Madrid this window, did it? Perhaps that’s a move that will come off in the future, but right now he is integral to everything Liverpool are doing and has only been with the club for a year. Let’s not forget, there was talk of him being offloaded almost immediately, as he struggled in the first few months of his Reds tenure. However, as the season wore on the former Monaco man emerged as one of the standout central midfielders in both the Premier League and in Europe. Truly, this is a terrific player. However, Liverpool are no longer a selling club when it comes to the big boys of European football. Yes, the likes of Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho have left for pastures new in recent years, but Jurgen Klopp’s team are European champions now, – they don’t need to sell to anyone unless they want to. With Fabinho, there’s no way they’d want to, and it would be a big surprise if he wasn’t starting on Friday.
