Clinton Morrison claimed that Jurgen Klopp would like to sign a couple of more players for Liverpool before the transfer window slams shut.

The Sky Sports pundit shared that he was confident that Liverpool would like to get a couple more bodies through the door, despite already having a lot of talented players.

Morrison stated that ideally, Liverpool would want a big-name like Phillipe Coutinho to join to get fans excited.

“Difficult one,” said Morrison on Sky Sports News (8:22am, Thursday, August 8th).

“I think Liverpool, Klopp, would like to get a couple of bodies through the door without a shadow of a doubt.

“I alluded to earlier that they had a lot of players who were injured, Adam Lallana, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who could come in and improve that squad, but I think you want a big name, like a Phillipe Coutinho to come back to get fans excited.

“But they already have a lot of talented players, but on deadline day you always want one or two to come through the doors at your football club.”

OPINION

Klopp publicly insisted that Liverpool do not need to make signings in an interview with Sky Sports, as he dismissed the idea of just signing players for the sake of it. So it’s hard to see why Morrison believes that Klopp would actually like a couple of signings done before the window slams shut. If the Red boss really wanted new recruits to arrive, he would have likely made that clear earlier in the window in order to try and get his way. Instead, the Reds have only signed a handful of players, youngsters Harvey Elliott, Sepp van den Berg as well as experienced keeper Adrian. The trio are unlikely to make a huge difference to the Reds’ chances of winning the Premier League in the coming season, you never know, so that implies that Klopp believes that he already had the tools needed to win the race for the league title ahead of the transfer window opening. Given that Morrison made these remarks on Sky Sports’ Transfer Deadline Day, you wonder if he did that in order to give Liverpool fans a reason to keep watching.
