Simon Jordan shared he thought Liverpool would lift the Premier League title in the 2019/20 campaign ahead of Manchester City.

The former Crystal Palace chairman shared that as much as it galled him to say, he wants to see Liverpool win the league and believes they will lift the league title in the upcoming campaign despite Man City having an elite coach in the form of Pep Guardiola.

Jordan claimed that Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane needed to be kept fit and also highlighted Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain being an option for Klopp to call upon after spending most of his 2018/19 campaign injured.

“I think it’s going to be very tight between Liverpool and Manchester City,” said Jordan on talkSPORT (7:52am, Thursday, August 2nd).

“I think Liverpool winning the Champions League might give them that extra bit of impetus as Klopp has got that monkey off his back about being at Liverpool having not won anything, getting to finals and not coming out victorious, but he has now done that.

“As much as it galls me, I’d like to see Liverpool win the Premier League as it adds to the stable of winners, because a Liverpool side that hasn’t win the Premier League, given their history over the last 40-50 years, doesn’t feel entirely right.

“But Man City have such an elite coach, and despite the loss of Vincent Kompany, the way he scored that goal at end of the season which was pivotal, is a change of opportunity for them.

“But I think Liverpool will win the league. If they can keep Salah, Firmino and Mane fit,  it doesn’t look like they’re going to add to their roster significantly.

“Oxlade-Chamberlain coming back in, with a point to prove in a side that has just won the Champions League, and he is a player who was doing well before he had that injury, it depends on how he comes back, but the way Klopp is talking about him…he talks about all those players that way as he keeps all 25 players engaged.

“But yeah I think it will be Liverpool but it will be nip and tuck between those two sides.”

OPINION

Jordan may have shared his desire for Liverpool to win the Premier League through gritted teeth, but Liverpool fans won’t mind as long as his prediction comes true. The former Palace chairman seems to think winning the Champions League will aid the Reds’ bid to win the league in the upcoming campaign, as Klopp is no longer having to deal with people calling him out for not winning a trophy. This makes sense and it seems logical that after racking up their first trophy under the German boss then the Reds will find it easier to fill their trophy cabinet. After all, a winning mentality is infectious. However, while Jordan goes out on a limb and predicts the Reds to lift the title, he does cover himself by saying their front three need to stay fit. That’s obviously easier said than done, especially given that all three have been busy with their respective nations over the summer. For example, take Mane, the attacker has made 110 competitive appearances for club and country since the start of the 2017/18 campaign, as per Sky Sports, and that sort of workload means he is more susceptible to injuries.
