Liverpool are looking to secure a loan move for young left back Adam Lewis this season, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The national reporter revealed the news on his personal Twitter account on Sunday, revealing the Reds’ plans for the exciting 19-year-old.

There was some talk earlier this summer that Lewis would assume the back up left back role vacated by Alberto Moreno following his departure at the end of last season.

But Nixon has seemingly put an end to that for now, writing: “LIVERPOOL. Looking for a loan home for top kid Adam Lewis. Left back.”

OPINION

This would seem like the right move for both Liverpool and Lewis at the moment. Clearly he’s not going to be featuring in the first team any time soon. Andrew Robertson has the starting position locked down, and manager Jurgen Klopp seems to be happy with having Joe Gomez and James Milner as cover should the Scotland captain pick up an injury or suspension. That is a slightly risky strategy, but given how robust Robertson and Milner have proved to be over the years it should be fine. That doesn’t leave any room for Lewis, really, meaning a temporary move away would be the ideal next step for him. He’s yet to have a loan spell so it’s important that he goes out and plays regular football now. Lewis is someone who has been pinpointed as having a big future with the club for some time, but he’s not going to be able to deliver on that unless he plays regularly somewhere first. This season is clearly the opportune time for him to do just that.
