Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson believes Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is the man to get Real Madrid star Gareth Bale’s career back on track.

The Welsh international joined the Spanish giants for what the BBC reported was an £85million fee in 2013, but is seemingly now being forced out by manager Zinedine Zidane.

Now, ‘Lawro’ has had his say: “I think Klopp could get the best out of him,” he told the Daily Star. “The only problem is would he fit into that front three but you could even play him on the left of the three in midfield and let him bomb on.

“He’s such a good player and such a talent. He just needs to be loved and Klopp would be the perfect fit to do that. People say he’s got injury problems and all that but Klopp would get him mega fit.”

OPINION

It’s far too simplistic to simply say ‘Klopp would get him mega fit’, as if that’s going to resolve all of the injury problems Bale has suffered over the years. It’s a fact that the Welshman is injury prone, there’s no disputing that. However, there’s also no arguing with the fact that the 30-year-old is a truly world class player. The Reds know that themselves from bitter experience, when he came off the substitutes bench to change the 2018 Champions League final around in Madrid’s favour, scoring a brace – including the greatest Champions League final goal of all time – to steer Zidane’s team to victory. He is the sort of talent that Klopp would surely love to work with, but financially he’s someone who simply doesn’t fit into Liverpool’s structure. The Star’s story stated that Bale is on £500,000-per-week in the Spanish capital, and so he would have to take a colossal pay cut to move to Merseyside. However, there’s no doubt that the German would be the ideal manager to rescue Bale’s faltering career.
