Liverpool are in the hunt to sign Besiktas midfielder Dorukhan Toköz as we enter the final few days of the summer transfer window, according to TRT Spor journalist Firat Gunayer.

The Turkish reporter claimed via his personal Twitter account on Sunday night, as translated by Sport Witness, that Liverpool are joined by two other British clubs in pursuit of the 23-year-old defensive midfielder, who could be offloaded by Besiktas in the coming days if a good offer is made.

Toköz scored three goals and supplied three assists in 25 appearances across all competitions for Besiktas last season while he also featured and assisted a goal for Turkey as they beat world champions France 2-0 in Euro 2020 qualifying in June.

OPINION

Toköz seems to be very highly-rated in Turkey after a strong season with Besiktas. He did not feature a lot at the beginning of the season as he was an unused substitute for the first 11 Super Lig matches of the campaign. However once he established himself in the side, it was hard for him to be left out as he continued to impress in Istanbul. Do Liverpool really need another defensive midfielder before the summer transfer window closes on Thursday? If there is one area of the Reds squad that Jurgen Klopp should try to improve it is the midfield, but with Fabinho, Naby Keita, Jordan Henderson and now Adam Lallana all capable of playing in a deeper-lying midfield role, there is not really much of a need for Toköz. If Liverpool are going to sign a midfielder they should go for someone who is a lot more attacking and creative. Signing Toköz would be a pointless waste of money so ignoring the potential chance to sign the in-demand midfielder should be what Klopp chooses to do.
