James Milner has sent former Liverpool teammate Simon Mignolet a message on Twitter after the keeper sealed a move to Club Brugge.

Mignolet’s exit was confirmed on Monday morning and the Belgian international released a statement on his personal Twitter account thanking the Liverpool fans for their support during his stop at Anfield.

The Liverpool midfielder responded to the message, sending his own to the 31-year-old, calling him a “top keeper,” a “top bloke,” and an “unbelievable pro.”

Mignolet left the club after a six-year spell at Anfield, after joining the club from Sunderland. After years of being cemented as the main stopper, Mignolet has only made 24 appearances in his final two seasons at the club.

OPINION

Milner has definitely been a good judge of character throughout his career and has been known for his integral role in the Liverpool set-up for his professionalism. Mignolet is another character that has had to adjust in the past year at Anfield, something which has highlighted his great professionalism. Since the arrival of Alisson Becker from Roma, Mignolet has been pushed to the back of the queue, with zero complaints. The 31-year-old only managed to feature twice in cup competitions last season and would have made more appearances if the Reds hadn’t of lost both games in which he played. A move was most likely motivated by the urge to play more first-team football next season, and it appears that Mignolet will leave the club with massive respect from his fellow professionals – something that proves how well the Belgian acted and is fully deserved of his opportunity to play elsewhere next season.
