Lucas Leiva has talent to Twitter to express his delight at Liverpool’s UEFA Super Cup win over Chelsea on Wednesday night.

The Reds lifted their first trophy of the season after Adrian denied Tammy Abraham from the spot in a penalty shootout win following a 2-2 draw after extra time.

And the former Reds midfielder was quick to congratulate his ex-teammates.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, the Brazilian said simply: ” Yes #LFCfamily”.

OPINION

It may be short and sweet from Lucas, but it’s nice to see him sharing messages like this one. Liverpool as a club seems to linger with players for the rest of their lives, and it feels as if ex-players are constantly showing their love and appreciation for the team. As for the Reds, they will be pleased with the silverware, of course, but would probably have wanted to win it in more convincing fashion. They were made to work far more than they would have liked against Chelsea, and the trip to Istanbul, jammed in between two Premier League fixtures so early in the season, is less than ideal. Throw in extra time and the mental rigour of a penalty shootout, and you just have to hope that they aren’t forced to pay the price for their efforts against Southampton on Saturday.
