OPINION

The decision to bench Roberto Firmino seemed even more questionable from Liverpool once the Brazilian forward entered the game at the beginning of the second half, and instantly changed the game. Being a goal down thanks to a goal from Olivier Giroud, Firmino turned the tide quickly for Liverpool, putting the ball on a plate for fellow forward Sadio Mane to slam the ball home for the equaliser. The role of Firmino is sometimes underrated, with the forward sitting perfectly in between both Mane and Mohamed Salah, the duo that takes many of the plaudits when it comes to the Reds’ success. Firmino alongside his other two forwards outscored 13 Premier League teams last season, with his work off the ball sometimes more important to his contributions on it. Many Liverpool fans took to Twitter to praise the impact of the 27-year-old, with many claiming he single-handedly changed the game in Istanbul, with fans going as far as calling him the “real GOAT,” as well as “pure class.”
