Alan McInally claimed that Jurgen Klopp would have ripped into Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian after his mistake in the 2-1 win against Southampton.

The Sky Sports pundit explained that the shot-stopper’s ears would have felt bad at full-time as he would have gotten an earful as he effectively gifted Southampton a way back into the match.

McInally stated that Adrian tried to be clever with the ball at his feet by trying to pass it through midfield to Fabinho, and the pundit pointed out how the keeper made a similar error, though that went unpunished in the first-half, earlier in the match.

“I’ll tell you what is going to be bad, his ears at full-time,” said McInally on Sky Sports News (16:40, Saturday, August 17th).

“Cause his manager is going to rip right into him.

“Remember when I said in the first-half, there was a pass back to him from Van Dijk and Ward-Prowse put him under pressure, and the ball went out of play.

“This time, lovely ball back from Van Dijk, takes a touch, takes an inch, tries to be clever and smart to pass it through to Fabinho and Danny Ings shuts him down and puts it straight in the back of the net.”

OPINION

Klopp will surely be pulling Adrian aside after the win against the Saints, as he could have ended up costing the Reds valuable points due to being cocky. The Spanish keeper acted like he had all the time in the world when the ball was played to his feet, and the Reds did well to hold onto to their victory in order to spare his blushes. While Adrian is no doubt feeling full of himself after helping the Reds lift the Super Cup on Wednesday, he has to remain focused.  This is especially the case when you considering how damning dropping points in the league could prove to be at the end of the season, after all the Reds only missed out on the league title in their 2018/19 campaign by a point. Adrian has conceded 169 goals in his 128 appearances in the Premier League, as per the Premier League, and given his experience, he should know by now that there’s no room between the sticks for show-boating.
