Rangers are readying a £6 million bid for Liverpool winger Ryan Kent, according to Football Insider.

It is understood that Steven Gerrard’s men are stepping up their pursuit of the 22-year-old after being given encouragement that the player himself is keen for a deal to go through.

Rangers will seek a season long loan with an obligation to buy next summer.

Kent spent last season on loan at Ibrox, hitting six goals and assisting nine more in all competitions for the Gers.

OPINION

This is a deal that would make sense for all parties. Kent is not going to play regularly for Liverpool this season, barring some kind of injury crisis, and Rangers are clearly keen to take him back to Scotland after such a wildly successful season last time out. 15 goal involvements is impressive, make no mistake, but even that doesn’t really tell the full story of a season during which Kent really came of age. He was lively and creative, and when he was awarded the Scottish PFA’s Young Player of the Year gong, nobody could really complain. As for the player himself, he is at an age now where he needs to be playing regular football. He would be a top dog at Ibrox, and the sooner he force his way out of Anfield, the sooner his career will really take off and he can realise his full potential. £6 million seems like a fair price, but it remains to be seen whether the option of a season long loan at first will be enough to tempt the Reds.
