Roma have approached a year-long loan deal for Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren with an option to buy at the end based on appearances, according to Sky Sports News.

It is understood that the Reds would be willing to allow the 6’2″ Croatian [Whoscored] to leave Anfield before the European transfer window shuts on September 2nd, provided the deal is right for all parties.

The report suggests that Liverpool have received interest from AC Milan as well as Roma, and that personal terms between Lovren and the latter will not be an issue, should the two clubs reach an agreement.

OPINION

There are certainly pros and cons to letting Lovren go. On the one hand, he is clearly well down the pecking order at Anfield these days, and it would take a minor miracle, or a major calamity, to see him thrusted back into the limelight. That being said, if the early stages of this season has taught Jurgen Klopp anything, it is surely you cannot be too careful in fleshing out your squad. Money shouldn’t be an issue for the Reds, so the only reason they would let the Croatian go would be if he was angling for a move. What’s going on behind the scenes is hard to say, but there is no question that he can still do a fine job when called upon. 4.1 aerial duels won per game last term, as well as 1.2 tackles and 3.9 clearances, as per Whoscored, show that the big man is still more than handy at the back, and were he to stay, it wouldn’t be the worst decision either. In short, what will be will be.
