Dejan Lovren could earn a deal worth £57,000-a-week if he was to quit Liverpool and join Roma before the Italian transfer window slams shut, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The Italian news outlet claims that Lovren’s agent held talks with Roma’s sporting director Gianluca Petrachi last Friday in a bid to trash out the terms of a transfer for the 30-year-old centre-back.

It is understood that the deal could cost Roma £13.9million but the issue is currently the personal terms.

Tutto Mercato Web claims that the Serie A giants are unwilling to match Lovren’s current £71,000-a-week earnings at Anfield and are hoping to talk him down into agreeing a £57,000-a-week deal at the Stadio Olimpico.

OPINION

Lovren has a lot of thinking to do over the coming days but he is better off waiting until nearer the end of the month before making a final decision. The Croatia international seems unlikely to get a lot of game-time for Liverpool this season having failed to get on the pitch in the opening two matches of the Merseyside club’s campaign. Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are all above the 30-year-old in Jurgen Klopp’s pecking order, but it only takes one injury or one suspension for him to get himself back into contention for a spot in the starting line-up. It is surprising that Liverpool would want to cash in on Lovren anyway. He is the fourth-choice centre-back in the first-team and after him, Klopp’s only options would be players from the Under-23s. And with the Premier League transfer window now closed, Liverpool wouldn’t be able to buy a replacement.
