Robbie Savage has predicted that Liverpool will again finish second in the Premier League title race.

The Reds pushed Manchester City all the way to the final day last season, amassing an impressive 97 points in the process, but Savage believes that they are in for more disappointment in the coming campaign.

Speaking in a video posted to his personal Twitter account, he said: “Second place, Liverpool.

“Not sure they’ll get 97 and I think they’ll lose more than one game this season, but they’ll still run City close.”

OPINION

The thing is with Savage’s prediction is that he’s taken the coward’s way out and gone with logic and rationality. On the face of it, the title is Man City’s to lose. Having won it last year, and after bringing in top talent like Rodri and Joao Cancelo, there is definitely a feeling that the Blues have strengthened after an onslaught of pressure from the Reds last year. By contrast, Jurgen Klopp’s men have been decidedly lethargic this summer. No senior outfield signings have left some fans feeling pessimistic and short-changed, but Klopp has insisted that his returning cast of long term absentees can make up for a lack of activity in the window. Hopefully he is right, because if he isn’t he could see that gap between his side and the one above widen substantially. That being said, he has never given the Kop a reason not to trust him before now, and until he does, all the Reds can do is pray that he is right once again.
