Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum has revealed his favourite funny moment from Jurgen Klopp’s tenure as boss.

The grinning German has become a figure of adoration since taking the hot seat at Anfield back in 2015, and has become renowned for his enigmatic and tactile approach to management.

And his personality is no act, according to Wijnaldum, who recounted his most memorable Klopp moment during an interview with The Athletic journalist Raphael Honigstein.

Referring to a training ground incident with an injured Jordan Henderson, the Dutchman said: “Jurgen was like, ‘I told you not to train and you still did it.

“He was already really angry, shouting. But Hendo didn’t even react. He just walked.

“Jurgen took his cap, threw it on the ground, wanting to kick it. But when he tried, he slipped and fell on his back.

“He stood up immediately and tried to kick it again. And he kicked it. The whole thing was on camera so everyone was laughing afterwards, I think I watched it 10 times.”

OPINION

Who wouldn’t want to work for Jurgen Klopp? The German seems to be a fantastic man manager, and his laidback style and enigmatic persona seem to pervade everybody around him. The real genius of his Liverpool tenure has been the way in which he has created a dressing room culture that is so tight and so beneficial to everybody involved. This Liverpool squad looks as if it would die for each other, and that it truly believes in its own abilities as a unit. And that has translated onto the pitch. A points per game average of 1.96 over 210 matches, as per Transfermarkt, is seriously impressive, especially when you consider the fact that Klopp got off to a relatively slow start during his time in England. All things considered, the Reds are a team on the up under him, and given how far they have already risen, that is a seriously exciting prospect.
