There is no sign of Naby Keita’s shirt in the Liverpool changing room ahead of their UEFA Super Cup showdown against Chelsea on Wednesday night, according to London Evening Standard journalist David Lynch.

The reporter claimed via his personal Twitter account that the big screens at Besiktas’ Vodafone Park stadium were showing images from inside the dressing rooms ahead of the match, but Keita’s shirt was not visible.

It is understood that the 24-year-old midfielder now looks unlikely to play against Frank Lampard’s side.

OPINION

The Mirror has recently reported that Keita had suffered an injury in training ahead of the match against Chelsea so it would seem as though that report is true and Jurgen Klopp will be without the Guinea international on Wednesday night. Keita’s time at Anfield has been one that has been frustrated by injuries so far. The £120,000-a-week [Spotrac] midfielder played 33 times across all competitions last season but was in and out of Klopp’s side due to a couple of injury issues. They were never anything major, it just seems as though the former RB Leipzig ace is prone to suffering from niggling issues. It is annoying that Liverpool paid so much for Keita and he can’t stay fit, but that’s just the way football goes a lot of the time. Hopefully it’s nothing serious and Keita is able to feature this weekend when Liverpool take on Southampton. He’s had a busy summer with the Africa Cup of Nations, so it could be worth giving him a bit of an extended rest.
