Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg has delivered an update on the recovery of Alisson Becker.

The Brazilian international is still out of action after picking up a calf injury in the Reds’ opening day victory over newly-promoted Norwich City at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp did confirm on Liverpool’s official club website that the 26-year-old would be out for a matter of weeks not months after the setback – with Adrian having deputised during his absence.

Speaking to The Athletic, Achterberg revealed that the Brazilian is progressing nicely from his early-season setback – saying “Ali is good.”

“He’s in every day for treatment and they try to improve things. He’s able to do some fitness work in the gym without using his leg.”

“They haven’t given us a specific time he’ll be out as it’s difficult to say how quickly it will heal. That’s all with the medics.”

OPINION

There is no doubting the fact that Adrian has had a massive impact on the Reds since he replaced Alisson and all Liverpool fans will surely be delighted by the update on their main keeper. The Brazilian has helped transform Klopp’s side since he arrived from Roma, contributing both in defence and attack. Adrian struggled on the ball against Southampton on Saturday, and it was his mistake that almost cost the Reds all three points. Last season, Alisson averaged an impressive pass success rate of 80.3% across the entire Premier League campaign, something that Adrian has failed to match so far, as the 32-year-old only successfully completes 74.5% of his passes [WhoScored]. Alisson almost averaged five more passes per game on top of that, and will surely be thrown straight back into the action once fully-fit. Alisson himself did makes mistakes at times last season, but Adrian will surely recognise that his role is simply being there should another injury occur to Becker, who should definitely return to the fold in the coming weeks.
