OPINION

With Liverpool set for their first game against the top-six sides in the Premier League when Arsenal travel to Anfield on Saturday, many eyes will be on the Reds and if they can continue their form from last season. Despite not strengthening, Jurgen Klopp’s men have won both their opening fixtures so far, with the Gunners the only other team to do so. Kevin Nolan has raised many eyebrows on Tuesday by selecting his combined team from the two sides on Sky Sports’ official Instagram account, with the former West Ham and Newcastle forward picking Joe Willock ahead of the likes of Fabinho in holding midfield. Willock has only played a couple of Premier League games, not exactly lighting up the Emirates Stadium, so for Nolan to select him seems ridiculous – especially in holding midfield. The Gunners’ midfielder has only averaged a single tackle per game as well as 0.5 interceptions [WhoScored], compared to Fabinho who has averaged four tackles per outing, on top of a single interception [WhoScored]. Many Liverpool fans slammed Nolan for his choice, with the majority in disbelief that he selected Willock over any of the Reds’ Champions League winners.
