Many Liverpool fans despaired after journalist James Pearce claimed that current AC Milan goalkeeper Pepe Reina was very keen to come back to Liverpool. The respected reporter claimed in a question and answer session for The Athletic that the former Reds keeper was willing to return to Anfield but that Jurgen Klopp’s side decided to go for Adrian instead. Liverpool confirmed on Monday, via their official website, that they had signed the former West Ham keeper after the exit of Simon Mignolet, but the thought that the Reds could have opted for Reina instead, caused some Liverpool fans to be disappointed. Several Liverpool fans responded to Pearce’s claim with crying emojis, while one Reds supporter simply stated that this update was heartbreaking. Reina is loved by the Anfield faithful after he played 395 times for the club. The 36-year-old won the League Cup, UEFA SuperCup and the FA Cup with the Reds and would have got a hero’s welcome upon returning. Yet despite the tweets below implying it would have been a popular decision to bring Reina back, Liverpool went in another direction.
