Alan Brazil claimed that there was a problem with the idea of Rangers manager Steven Gerrard succeeding Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

The talkSPORT host shared he was hearing all sorts about Gerrard having problems at Rangers and questioned whether the boss will still be at Ibrox in 2022.

Klopp’s current Liverpool contract is set to expire in 2022 and Brazil suggested that Gerrard may have other options that could tempt him ahead of the Reds being ready to make him Klopp’s successor.

“You know the problem with Gerrard, Liverpool and Klopp, the problem is will Gerrard stay at Rangers until 2022?,” said Brazil on talkSPORT (7:22am, Wednesday, September 25th).

“I mean I’m hearing all sorts, that there are problems, I think he has closed the gap on Celtic enough to cause Celtic problems and he is doing a good job up there, but if he is frustrated and if he doesn’t get what he wants then he could leave.

“If he leaves it won’t just be Liverpool who looks to Gerrard, that’s the problem Rangers are facing in a year’s time.”

OPINION

Klopp recently revealed in an interview with Four Four Two that Gerrard should succeed him as Liverpool manager, and it feels like the Rangers boss is destined to one day sit in the hot seat at Anfield. After all, Gerrard is a Liverpool legend and him doing a solid job at Rangers, which is no easy task given the club’s rivalry with Celtic, means he may tick a lot of boxes by the time Klopp’s successor needs to be appointed. The Reds manager’s current contract is set to expire in 2022 and while he has played down talk of a new deal, he has previously made it clear that he will never walk away from Liverpool while there is time on his deal (Source: Telegraph). So with that in mind, it’s easy to see why Brazil believes Gerrard succeeding Klopp isn’t a slam dunk. If the promising manager was to leave Ibrox in the next year, for whatever reason, he probably isn’t going to wait around for the Liverpool job to become available, and if another club makes him a tempting offer, they’re going to want reassurances that he won’t bail on them if Klopp does end up leaving in 2022.
