Jamie Carragher has heaped praise on Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino for his performance against Burnley on Saturday.

The Brazilian international scored and grabbed an assist as Jurgen Klopp’s side eased to a 3-0 victory at Turf Moor, with his milestone strike making it 50 in the Premier League for him.

Carragher was very impressed with him, and teammate Virgil van Dijk. “Very good start for LFC top of the league & a trophy in the bag,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.

Thought Van Dijk was immense & totally dominated [Ashley] Barnes/[Chris] Wood, those type of opponents are at times more difficult to handle than the top 6 teams strikers. Firmino brilliant, as he has been all season!”

OPINION

Carragher sums it up pretty well, here. Liverpool have looked excellent in the early goings of this season, there’s no doubt about that. Klopp’s team seem focused, ruthless and able to win in all manner of ways. They dismantled Arsenal last weekend, while they had to be patient and bide their time against a stubborn Burnley side on Saturday. However, it’s always easier to taste victory when you have players like Van Dijk and Firmino in your team. The Dutch international was his usual imperious self against the Clarets, dealing with one of the Premier League’s most in-form strikers in Barnes as if he was just another fly to be swatted. Then there’s Firmino who, as Carragher says, has been immense all season long. The former Hoffenheim man was an effervescent ball of energy against Burnley, and it’s no surprise that it was he who was in position to capitalise on Ben Mee’s mistake for the second goal. He fully deserved his own strike, too, and took it very well.
