European heavyweights Borussia Dortmund are on red alert for Liverpool forward Bobby Duncan after his big fall out with the club, according to The Daily Mirror.

The newspaper claims that the German giants are interested in the 18-year-old, who has been embroiled in controversy with the European champions after they blocked a loan move to Italian outfit Fiorentina.

Should the Reds take the surprising step to terminate the contract of the teenage attacker, then Dortmund have positioned themselves ready to pounce.

However, boss Jurgen Klopp defended the club’s action in regards to Duncan this week and suggested they wanted to keep him on board.

OPINION

It certainly seems unlikely that Liverpool would simply release Duncan from his contract with the club. This is a really highly-rated youngster who excelled for the Reds’ Under-23s side last season. To simply give up on him after a bit of controversy would be very surprising. He played a part in pre season this summer, so he’s clearly someone who is on Klopp’s radar. It’s no shock to see Dortmund register their interest in the youngster, though. German clubs have made it their business to try and poach all the best young English talent in recent years, with Dortmund the biggest beneficiaries of that by snaring superstar Jadon Sancho from Manchester City a few years back. If they can pull off the signing of Duncan, as well, then they will be really pleased. However, it’s surely highly unlikely that that’s going to happen. Yes, there’s clearly an issue here, but with such a talented youngster in place, the Reds will surely sort this one out.
