Jamie Carragher has predicted that Manchester City are still favourites ahead of Liverpool in the race to win the Premier League title.

Although Jurgen Klopp’s side sits top of the table with a 100 per cent record after four games, ex-Liverpool defender Carragher still believes that Man City will force their way back into first place soon enough.

Carragher does not want to make a concrete prediction before December but he clearly thinks that City are more likely to retain their crown rather than the Reds nicking it away from them.

“I think it’s a bit early yet. I think we’ve got to probably wait until Christmas,” Carragher said, as quoted by Goal.

“I do feel around about Christmas time Liverpool and City will have a substantial gap and it looks like there’s a little bit of a gap at this moment.

“But I still think City are favourites and are the best team in the Premier League at this moment because they won the Premier League and they proved that last season.

“So, I think it’s still on Liverpool to overtake City but they’re more than capable.”

OPINION

Manchester City have been on another level at the start of this season and the only reason they are not top of the table right now is because of that goal being disallowed late on against Tottenham due to the stupid new handball rule. Liverpool have won every game but there have been a few fixtures where Klopp’s men have not completely been at the races. You would expect their winning run to continue for a while yet. They play Newcastle on Saturday before what seems like a winnable game against Chelsea and a trip to Sheffield United in the Premier League. One of the big deciding factors this term is what results are going to be like when the two teams play against each other. Liverpool couldn’t get the better of Man City last season and ultimately that is why they missed out on winning their first-ever Premier League title.
