talkSPORT presenter Adrian Durham has claimed that Liverpool forward Sadio Mane is the Reds’ most important player.

The radio station were doing a segment on their ‘Drive’ show on Tuesday where they debated Liverpool’s most crucial cog. For Durham, it was undoubtedly the Senegal star.

“For me it’s Mane, he’s the most important,” he told talkSPORT [24/09; 16:15]. “I think he’s the best of those front three. I think he’s the most underrated of those front three, as well.

“But what’s great about Liverpool is Liverpool going forward, so it has to be one of those front three, doesn’t it?”

OPINION

This was a terrific debate on talkSPORT, because they had a number of different Liverpool fans phoning in and the majority of them picked a completely different player to their fellow supporters. That tells you everything you need to know about the strength in depth of this Liverpool squad. Mane probably wouldn’t be most people’s choice, but you can see why Durham picked him. Alisson is a world class goalkeeper, but probably isn’t most people’s most valuable Red. Mohamed Salah is absolutely outstanding, but some think he couldn’t do what he does without fellow attacker Roberto Firmino. Then there’s Virgil van Dijk, who has taken Jurgen Klopp’s team to the next level. Again, all this demonstrates is that Liverpool are one of the most well-rounded, deep squads in world football. That’s why it’s so difficult to pick just one player. Mane is a world class attacker, but is he the most important? Maybe, but equally it could be about half a dozen other Reds.
