Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has said he is ‘looking forward’ to seeing young Reds striker Rhian Brewster make his debut against MK Dons on Wednesday.

Jurgen Klopp’s team travel to Stadium MK to take on the League One outfit, and Owen is keen to see what the 19-year-old can do in what could be his first senior action.

“Liverpool passed their first major examination of their title credentials at Stamford Bridge on Sunday and Jurgen Klopp looks sure to shuffle his talented pack at Stadium MK,” he wrote on the BetVictor website.

“Rhian Brewster is likely to make his debut for Liverpool against the Dons and I am looking forward to seeing the striker’s first appearance in a red shirt. It won’t be his last.”

OPINION

Brewster has long been thought of as a potential future Liverpool star, but up till now injuries have prevented him from making his first team breakthrough. However, Wednesday’s game is the ideal opportunity to give him his senior bow at long last. We know how good he is, he’s shown that at every level he’s played at, and League One opposition is perfect to get him wet behind the ears at first team level. It’s not nailed on that the teenager is going to start against Paul Tisdale’s side, but it seems very likely that he will be playing, hopefully from the start. Owen’s right, this shouldn’t be the last of Brewster’s appearances for the club. He is someone with unbelievable potential who should have a huge future at Anfield. That’s why Klopp has resisted the urge to send him out on loan. He believes that the youngster will soon be good enough to be a regular squad player for his side. That all starts on Wednesday night.
