Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is wary of the impact that Chelsea playmaker Mason Mount could make against the Reds on Sunday.

The 20-year-old is a doubt for the game after suffering an injury against Spanish side Valencia in mid-week. However, if he does play, Henderson feels his side will have to watch out for his England colleague.

“They’ve got huge potential with the likes of Mason already training for England, I can see he’s got the right mentality to play football,” he told Sky Sports.

“Technically he’s very good. Everyone can see that he’s hungry to be a very good player and is a very exciting prospect. He’s started the season very well along with Tammy [Abraham]”

OPINION

This is certainly going to be a different-looking Chelsea side that Liverpool come up against on Sunday to the one they have encountered for the last decade plus since Roman Abramovich took over. Under Frank Lampard, and with a transfer embargo hanging over them, the Blues have embarked upon an exciting new youth movement, with the trio of Mount, Abraham and Fikayo Tomori being the main beneficiaries thus far. It’s the former who Henderson is most familiar with, having paired up with him on Three Lions duty recently. As he says, the youngster is incredibly skilled technically  and obviously has the crucial desire to prove himself at the highest level. Abraham’s goals this campaign have seen him receive most of the plaudits for Chelsea thus far, but Mount has been equally pivotal to the largely positive start Lampard has made to his managerial tenure in west London. If the England international does play on Sunday then Jurgen Klopp’s charges will have to monitor him closely.
