Liverpool are admirers of Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir and have made contact over potentially signing the Turkey international, according to Star.

The Turkish news outlet claims that the Reds have had a scout watch Cakir, 23, in action for Trabzonspor, who would be willing to sell the 6ft 3 [transfermarkt] colossus for £13.6million.

Cakir has been ever-present for Trabzonspor in the early stages of this season by appearing seven times across all competitions, helping his side go unbeaten in their first three league matches while also qualifying for the Europa League group stages.

OPINION

Cakir is definitely a goalkeeper that Liverpool should continue to keep an eye on over the course of the season because Jurgen Klopp could find himself in need of a new shot-stopper next summer. Alisson Becker and Adrian will still be under contract but, as already shown in the early stages of this season due to an injury to Alisson, Liverpool could do with three goalkeepers to choose from. Cakir is a young and up-and-coming goalkeeper in Turkey who may be a solid understudy to someone like Alisson. Although Cakir has failed to keep a clean sheet this season, he is already a full Turkish international with 41 senior club appearances to his name. According to stats by WhoScored, Cakir has already averaged five saves per match for Trabzonspor in the league this season, which is up from his average of 3.5 last term. In the 1-1 draw with Fenerbahce at the weekend, Cakir made a stunning eight saves to help his side earn a point.
