Ally McCoist snubbed Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah and opted to pick Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham when picking a Premier League fantasy five-a-side team ahead of the games this weekend.

The retired Scottish international was asked to put together a five-a-side team from the Premier League fixtures that talkSPORT were broadcasting this weekend, and didn’t have room for Salah.

Alan Brazil asked McCoist to choose between Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, Liverpool’s Salah and Chelsea’s Abrahams and after deciding he couldn’t opt for any more members of Pep Guardiola’s side, he went for the Blues attacker in order to give him a confidence boost.

“I can’t go Aguero…he had a brilliant chance (Abraham) the other night against Liverpool, they were down and that’s when you need to finish them off,” said McCoist on talkSPORT (Friday, September 27th 6:55am)

“But he still has had a brilliant start, what has he got seven in six or six in seven? I’m going Abraham in order to give him a confidence boost.”

OPINION

McCoist snubbing Salah for his fantasy five-a-side team makes little sense, and he seems to ignore that the Reds winger is a possible option to choose from despite Brazil directly asking him. The Egyptian winger clearly should walk into McCoist’s team based on his form, and it was just odd that he wanted to give Abraham a confidence boost as that wasn’t the point of the game. Salah has scored four goals in six league outings so far this season, averaged a very impressive 2.8 shots per game in order to be a constant thorn in opponents’ side and has even racked up a Man of the Match award in the process (Source: WhoScored). The Reds winger has also proven once again this season that he not only scores goals, but he is capable of carving out chances for his teammates after he has racked up three league assists so far. So when you consider that and the fact that Abraham hasn’t registered an assist in his six league outings and only has a pass completion rate of 72%, as per WhoScored, then surely Salah would be a more worthwhile member of a fictitious five-a-side team?
