It’s not even 48 hours since Bobby Duncan left Liverpool for Fiorentina, and it already looks as if the Reds are eyeing up his replacement. According to Goal journalist Neil Jones, Jurgen Klopp is keen on Wigan Athletic 17-year-old Joe Gelhardt, who is also catching the eye of city rivals Everton. Despite his age, Gelhardt has featured for the Latics in the Championship this season, coming on for the last 27 minutes of their 0-0 draw with Barnsley on Saturday. Even though it might have been the briefest of cameos, the young striker still managed to impress, registering one shot on target, one key pass, and one successful dribble, as per Whoscored. It’s hard to get the full measure of a player after less than half an hour, but all the signs are that Gelhardt could be the real deal. To be playing senior football at the age of 17 is very promising, and if he can be brought in, he could bridge the gap between the senior side and the U23s nicely, just slotting in behind Rhian Brewster in the pecking order. Whether it actually happens remains to be seen, but this could be a very interesting one, should the Reds choose to pursue it.
