For quite some time now, a new football kit has been about way more than just making a side look fresh for the new season.
It is a statement of intent, a way of attracting rabid social media attention, but most importantly, it is a great way to make money.
Whether it be through selling replicas or agreeing multi-million pound manufacturing deals, a new shirt can be a very, very lucrative venture.
And for Liverpool, if rumours are to be believed, it could be worth an awful lot.
According to Forbes, the Reds are on the verge of signing a new kit deal with Nike that could be teh most valuable in the Premier League.
Manchester United currently earn £75 million from their deal with Adidas, so any advance on that would be seriously profitable.
And while fans will no doubt disagree about what a deal with Nike will mean for the image and aesthetic of the club, one thing is for sure – this deal, should it be confirmed, is a marker of just how massive the Reds have become under Jurgen Klopp.
Of course, Liverpool have always been a big club, but for them to be outstripping the likes of United in terms of marketability, it illustrates just how desirable a club the European Champions are right now.
Evidently, a European title went a long way to helping that cause, but if they can follow it up with a Premier League this year, plus a bumper deal with Nike, they will arguably be the biggest club in the world.
