Liverpool have opened up talks with winger Sadio Mane over a new contract, according to FourFourTwo.

The football magazine claim on their website that the Reds are keen to tie down the Senegalese international past his current £100,000-a-week deal [Spotrac] which runs until 2023.

FourFourTwo report that despite Liverpool wanting to reward Mane for his fine form over the past couple of seasons, talks very much remain at an early stage.

The 27-year-old forward continued his goalscoring start to the season on Saturday in the 3-1 win over Newcastle United at Anfield, scoring the first two goals as the Reds eased to their 14th consecutive Premier League victory.

Liverpool would definitely be making all the right moves if they continue to try and secure their best players to new deals. Mane has quickly established himself as one of Jurgen Klopp’s most important players in the Reds’ prolific front three and has started to add consistent goals to his game, which was an area he needed to improve on after first signing for the club. A new contract would most likely add a significant wage hike for the Senegalese winger, and see him join the likes of Mohamed Salah who is currently earning double the amount of Mane on £200,000-a-week [Spotrac]. The 27-year-old has averaged 2.2 shots per game so far this season, as well as 2.4 key passes according to WhoScored, impressive stats that prove he can scores goals as well as create them for his teammates, an invaluable attribute to have. Klopp is obviously keen to secure the spine of his successful side for the remainder of his stay on Merseyside, and Mane will most likely not be the first to sign on the dotted line this season.
