OPINION
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is expected to ring the changes for his side’s trip to MK Dons in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
Indeed, only two players are likely to keep their places from Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Left back Andrew Robertson and defensive midfielder Fabinho look set to continue in their positions.
That means that a whole host of youngsters and squad players are sure to come into the Reds side, as Klopp looks to give his first team players a well-deserved break.
Those nine changes will likely be about it for the German, while teenage winger Harvey Elliott, signed from Fulham this summer, will most probably be handed his senior debut at Stadium MK.
In goal, Adrian deserves a rest. The Spaniard has been working non-stop since Alisson went down injured on the opening day, and so young shot-stopper Caoimhin Kelleher will surely get the nod here.
As mentioned, Robertson will likely continue at left back due to a lack of alternatives. Meanwhile, teenage right back Ki-Jana Hoever can expect to come in for Trent Alexander-Arnold on the opposite side of the defence.
At the heart of the defence, we will most probably see Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren come in for Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk. The duo have waited patiently for their chance this season, and this seems like the ideal game to give the latter two a break.
Fabinho is the main man in the holding midfield position, which will likely see Klopp keep him in on Wednesday. He can expect to be joined by veteran Adam Lallana and 2018 recruit Naby Keita, who is set to return from injury. Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum are sure to miss out.
Then there’s the front three. Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane will likely all be rested. That will give Klopp the chance to hand debuts to Elliott and Rhian Brewster, while Xherdan Shaqiri will likely come in on the left of the attack.
