Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren is set to stay at Anfield this season, according to Sky Sports.

The news broadcaster claim on their website that despite interest from both AC Milan and Roma in the transfer window, the Croatian international will remain a Liverpool player.

Sky Sports report on their live transfer blog (02/09 09:43) that talks have broken down between the Reds and the interested Italian sides and there has been no further contact regarding the £100,000-a-week enforcer [Spotrac].

Another Serie A side that has registered an interest in Lovren are Juventus, who according to Sky Sports have placed the 30-year-old on a three-man shortlist.

OPINION

With countless numbers of teams being interested in signing Lovren, it comes as a surprise to see the Croatian possibly staying at Anfield. The 30-year-old has failed to make a single appearance so far for the Champions League winners and has quickly fallen down the pecking order behind Joel Matip and Joe Gomez. Jurgen Klopp will not be disappointed that one of his most experienced players will be staying at the club though, and he will now be available to use him throughout the Premier League campaign. When looking to win your first-ever Premier League title, having experience in your back-up players is almost as important as having a solid starting 11, and Klopp will know that he will need to call upon the World Cup finalist at some point this season. Lovren made 11 starts last season in the league and was solid in defence, making 1.2 tackles and 3.9 clearances per game according to WhoScored. As the saying goes, you don’t need to fix something if it isn’t broken, and there is no need for Liverpool to sell Lovren right now.
