Jamie Redknapp has selected Liverpool duo Andrew Robertson and Sadio Mane in his Team of the Week after the Reds’ 3-1 win over Newcastle United on Saturday.

Liverpool came from behind to collect all three points and extend their winning run in the Premier League to 14 consecutive games.

Two goals from Mane and a third added by Mohamed Salah towards the end of the game was enough for the Reds after Jetro Willems opened the scoring inside 10 minutes.

Robertson delivered his first assist of the season in the win when setting up Mane’s first goal, continuing his form from last season where he claimed 11.

Despite not selecting him in his team, Redknapp was in awe of the effect that Roberto Firmino had when he came off the bench.

“Speaking of Liverpool, I have to devote a separate section to Roberto Firmino,” he wrote in his Daily Mail column.

“That flick into Mohamed Salah deserves nothing less — it was an outrageous piece of skill. Firmino is such an influential player and any budding strikers should study him.”

OPINION

It took Liverpool some time to get going against Newcastle after going a goal down, but when they did, it became impossible for the Magpies to stop them. Consistent waves of attack became too much for Steve Bruce’s side and the impact that Mane and Robertson had played a major role in securing all three points. The Scottish international, Robertson, continued his fine attacking form and was rewarded with his first assist of the season. The 25-year-old also completed three dribbles and two key passes in the game according to WhoScored and was a constant threat down the left-hand side. Mane also deserves all the credit he receives for his performance on Saturday, with his two goals meaning he is averaging a goal every game he starts in the Premier League. The Senegalese winger had four shots on goal at Anfield, as well as completing two key passes according to WhoScored, and was a thorn in Newcastle’s side all afternoon in the game.
