Darren Bent has claimed that he would rather have Tottenham striker Harry Kane in his side over Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino.

The Spurs captain struck the opening goal at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, but the Reds battled back to register a 2-1 victory.

Despite that, Sky Sports pundit Bent has suggested that Kane’s goalscoring prowess makes him the more desirable option up front.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “I rate them both so highly as Kane can do it all and is just a dependable source of goals but Firmino’s link-up play is scary and he is the glue that holds Liverpool’s front three together.

But that said Kane can get you goals and change games even when not playing well, he can be struggling upfront then the ball falls to him and he hits it home.

“So I’d pick Kane over Firmino because you know he could score goals for fun.”

OPINION

While it may be true that Kane offers a more consistent goal threat than Firmino, the Brazilian still offers a style of play that makes him a vital cog in this Liverpool side. So far this season, Kane has six goals to Firmino’s three in the Premier League, but beyond that basic stat, the South American has more assists, more shots per game, more key passes, and more successful dribbles, as per Whoscored. He also has a higher average match rating too. As such, it really depends on what you’re looking for from your striker. If you want a traditional hitman, Kane is your guy. But if you want somebody who can score and create with ease, you have to pick Firmino at this moment in time.
