Peter Crouch has hailed Jordan Henderson for his performance in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Tottenham on Sunday.

The Reds’ skipper occupied a slightly wider berth on the right hand side of the pitch than he usually does, scoring the goal to cancel out Harry Kane’s early header, and his efforts caught the attention of the former Kop striker.

Speaking on Match of the Day 2, (BBC One, Sunday October 27th, 22.30), he said: “This was Jordan Henderson taking it upon himself to play more on the right hand side.

“He nullified Danny Rose’s threat, and he made an impression going forward. He was creative down the right.

“It was a fantastic finish. I think he’s become a really, really integral part [of this side].”

OPINION

You have to give credit to Henderson for the manner in which he bounced back yesterday. After all, it was he who got dispossessed in the build up to Kane’s early opener, and lesser players might have allowed their heads to drop after such an underwhelming start to the match. Instead, however, the skipper showed real mental fortitude and battled hard to get back into the game. He got his goal, of course, but he also registered two tackles, an interception, one key pass, and two successful dribbles, as per Whoscored, as well as a match rating of 8.00. In short, he was superb after a difficult start, and his efforts absolutely deserve the commendation that Crouch is dishing out here.
