Lyon attacker Memphis Depay sent a four-word Instagram message to Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum after he shared a picture of them together on international duty.

The Reds midfielder uploaded a picture of himself laughing in Depay’s direction while in his Netherlands training kit, to his personal Instagram account, during a moment where the team seemed to be on exercise bikes in the gym.

The Lyon attacker almost instantly responded by sending a message to his international teammate to ask what he was laughing about.

“What’s so funny bro!?” wrote Depay, via his verified Instagram account.

OPINION

Depay and Wijnaldum seem to be close friends as this isn’t the first time the Lyon attacker has noticeably messaged the Liverpool star, and every time they exchange messages, you can’t help but think how good it would be if both played in Jurgen Klopp’s side. After all, Depay is a fantastic player who would be a welcomed addition to the squad. The 25-year-old attacker has been proving his talents further in Ligue 1 this season, as he has already racked up four goals in his first eight league appearances of the season. Depay has consistently impressed in his league outings not just because he has hit the back of the net, but because he has proven to be a constant thorn in his opponent’s side, he has averaged 1.9 dribbles per game after all (Source: WhoScored). Also if that wasn’t enough to suggest he is good enough for the Reds, he has wowed in the illustrious Champions League this season. Depay has averaged an eye-catching rating of 8.25 across his two outings after scoring twice and averaging three key passes per match (Source: WhoScored). Yet as for now, Depay isn’t Liverpool’s player, and that’s only made more painful when you consider Depay’s biographer, Simon Zwartkuis, revealed to Tribal Football previously that the Dutch attacker came close to arriving at Anfield, but the Reds opted to sign Christian Beneteke instead.
