Harvey Elliott drooled over his Liverpool teammate Curtis Jones following the U-19s beating Genk in the UEFA Youth League on Wednesday.

The Reds U-19s achieved a 2-0 win in their latest outing and Elliott actually got showered with praise on Twitter by the many Liverpool fans who tuned in to watch the match.

Yet Elliott didn’t opt to focus on his eye-catching performance after the game on Instagram and instead gushed about Jones in a two-word message.

“On fire,” wrote the former Fulham youngster.

OPINION

Jones got on the scoresheet against Genk after Elliott played him through on goal in amazing style, so clearly the pair appreciate each other’s talents. In fact, some of the Liverpool supporters who raved about Elliott’s display pointed out that they were impressed with how he linked-up with Jones. It’s very promising to see two of Liverpool’s potential stars of the future already build up a rapport and an understanding as they could end up playing alongside each other for the first-team. If the two youngsters already understand how the other thinks and plays, then it will likely see them excel as a duo when on the senior stage together. Jones has featured once already for the senior side this season, he played in the 2-0 win over MK Dons, and it’s fair to say he impressed. The 18-year-old carved out enough space to have four shots on target, two worked the keeper, completed two dribbles and he was a key part of the Reds’ win as he touched the ball 77 times, which was more than the majority of his teammates (Source: WhoScored). While Jones does need to improve some areas of his game, he needs to be clinical as he fluffed so many chances for the U-19s against Genk before scoring, he does seem to be on the right track and it’s worth noting he is still only 18-years-old.
