Former England goalkeeper David James has admitted that he wants Liverpool to win the Premier League title over Manchester City.

The 49-year-old played for both clubs over the course of his career, but has claimed that he would rather Jurgen Klopp’s men get their hands on the trophy come May.

As quoted by the Echo (11.25), he said: “I want Liverpool to win it. Yes there’s a gap at the moment, but to think Liverpool will win every game this season would be foolish, because it’s never been done before.

“You’d imagine Liverpool are going to drop some points, and Man City will keep gaining points.

“I think Liverpool will do it, I would like Liverpool to do it because Jurgen Klopp deserves it and the club deserves it.”

OPINION

If you’re truly a football romantic, or a purist for that matter, how could you disagree with James on this one? Yes, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side are something special, and we all know it, but the this Liverpool side is something else, and if it were to go another season with a league title, it would be a travesty. Not only have they waited a lifetime to get their hands on the top prize in English football, but Jurgen Klopp has now built the kind of high-octane, comprehensive footballing behemoth that deserves to have its named etched into the annals of Premier League history. As James suggests, you would be fairly shocked if the Reds didn’t have a wobble at some point this season, but right now, they are in the best position possible to make a go of things.
