Liverpool are in a four-team Premier League tug of war for Real Madrid sensation Martin Odegaard, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper claims that the Reds hold an interest in the £25million-rated Norwegian, who is currently enjoying a terrific start to the season on loan at La Liga side Real Sociedad.

The 20-year-old struggled initially in the Spanish capital after agreeing to join them as a 15-year-old, but has got back on track with impressive loan spells in Holland with Heerenveen and Vitesse, and now Sociedad in Spain.

Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal are all also thought to be in for the playmaker, with the latter two targeting him as a replacement for David Silva and Mesut Ozil respectively.

OPINION

There’s no doubt that Odegaard’s phenomenal potential makes him an absolute bargain at £25million, but if all these big teams are in for the youngster then his price tag would likely skyrocket once Madrid wake up to the massive amount of interest in him. The Norway international has come on leaps and bounds over the past couple of seasons and, in his most high level loan spell yet, he has started this campaign in red-hot form. Meanwhile, he is averaging 1.3 shots, 3.3 key passes and 2.6 dribbles per game, all tremendous tallies. His pass success rate of 84.9% is pretty solid, while he’s averaging 58.6 passes per outing. His average WhoScored rating per game this season is an excellent 7.61, as well. So there’s genuine talent there and bucketloads of potential, but whether the Reds need him enough to pay the required fee for him remains to be seen.
