Liverpool are not interested in signing Lewis Cook from Bournemouth, according to Daily Mail journalist Dominic King.

The Reds had been linked with a move for the 22-year-old midfielder by a report from the Daily Mail on Friday afternoon, but King has since refuted these claims.

Writing on his personal Twitter account on Saturday, he said: “No interest from Liverpool in Bournemouth’s Lewis Cook.

“He’s a good player but hasn’t even been discussed as a potential target.”

OPINION

You can’t help but wonder where this rumour has come from. First of all the Daily Mail reports on a potential Liverpool interest in Cook, and then the same outlet’s north west football correspondent denies that exact rumour not 48 hours later. It’s an odd one, but truth be told, the Reds probably don’t need Cook all that much. The midfielder really hasn’t been at the races so far this season, and his Whoscored rating of 6.37, combined with just 0.5 tackles, no key passes, and 0.5 successful dribbles per game for the Cherries so far this season, would suggest that he isn’t at the level required to play for the European champions. If you then consider the fact that Marko Grujic, who is impressing on loan at Hertha Berlin, also plays in a similar position, it is little surprise that this one is being ruled out.
