Liverpool are willing to listen to offers for young attacker Liam Millar in January after losing faith in his potential, according to Football Insider.

The outlet claims that the Reds have major doubts that he can become a first team player in the future. The Canada international is currently in his second loan spell with Scottish side Kilmarnock.

The teenager’s current contract with the club runs out next summer and so the European champions likely view the winter transfer window as their last chance to make some money on him.

Millar’s path to the first team at Anfield is blocked by the established front three, as well as back up options and youngsters like Divock Origi, Xherdan Shaqiri, Rhian Brewster, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott.

OPINION

This makes complete sense from Liverpool’s point of view. Millar may well go on to have a decent career, but it just doesn’t look like he’s ever going to be good enough to make it as a Reds regular. If he was really that good then, even at just 19 years of age, he would be tearing up the Scottish Premiership with Kilmarnock. Unfortunately, though, he has only managed two goals and three assists in  23 games for Killie [Source: Transfermarkt]. That’s simply not enough to demonstrate that he’s capable of becoming an important player on Merseyside. When you consider that Ryan Kent won the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award last season and was still considered surplus to requirements at Liverpool this summer, it doesn’t exactly look like Millar, struggling to make waves north of the border, is capable of making the breakthrough at Anfield. With that said, the club need to try and get a bit of money for him in January while they can.
