Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is not in the Liverpool squad to take on Leicester on Saturday due to an incident at Melwood on Friday, according to Liverpool Echo journalist Paul Gorst.

The reporter claimed via his personal Twitter account on Saturday, prior to kick-off at Anfield, that the 26-year-old was hit on the head by a ball in training and will play no part against Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester side this weekend.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has made five Premier League appearances for Liverpool so far this season but will not be adding to that tally against the Foxes.

OPINION

It will be interesting to know if Jurgen Klopp was planning to start Oxlade-Chamberlain because the former Arsenal player has started two league games this term and could have been called upon to rotate the midfield. Liverpool beat Red Bull Salzburg on Wednesday night so there has not been much of a break in between their fixtures. James Milner has replaced Jordan Henderson in the starting line-up against Leicester, but there’s a good chance that Oxlade-Chamberlain could have meant to come in and partner Georginio Wijnaldum and Fabinho in the three-man midfield. It’s going to be a tough game for Liverpool on Saturday. Leicester are in good form and their defensive record is joint-best with the Reds in the Premier League so far. It would not be a shock if Klopp sees his side’s winning run halted by ex-Liverpool boss Rodgers on his first return to Anfield but hopefully he can prove us wrong.
