James Pearce has claimed that he would be “very surprised” if Jadon Sancho signed for Liverpool anytime soon.
During a Q&A for the Athletic on Friday, one Kop fan claimed to have heard from a reliable source that the 19-year-old was house-hunting on Merseyside with view to a potential switch.
But Pearce was quick to quell that suggestion.
He said: “I’d be very surprised if that was true.
“Klopp certainly likes him but he’s only recently signed a new contract at [Borussia] Dortmund and would be very expensive.”
OPINION
This is a real shame, because if there was one player who could really do a job for this Liverpool side, it would be Sancho. The youngster is a real firecracker, capable of causing any defence serious problems on his day. So far this season, for instance, he has managed three goals and five assists in six starts for Borussia Dortmund, and has averaged 2.7 successful dribbles per game, 1.9 key passes, and a Whoscored rating of 7.63. For context, Liverpool’s highest rated player so far this season is Joel Matip, with 7.62, as per Whoscored. You would surprised if Sancho didn’t come back to England one day, but right now he seems settled and happy in Germany, and if an authority as reliable as Pearce says that he is unlikely to sign, the sad truth is that he is probably unlikely to sign. Kopites can still live in hope of a miracle though.
