Former England international Paul Robinson has been blown away by Liverpool midfielder Fabinho, who he regards as one of the best in the Premier League.

The Brazil international is coming off a terrific outing against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, and Sky Sports pundit Robinson was very impressed by his efforts.

“He seems to be the one in midfield that is the automatic pick as the other two, he plays a midfield three and the other two are always rotated,” he told Football Insider. “But he does seem to be the automatic pick out of the three midfielders.

“I think he’s up there when it comes to the best holding midfielders in the Premier League, I like Fernandinho as he is outstanding as well, but I think the role he plays in the Liverpool team…he is definitely one of the best.”

OPINION

There’s no doubt that Fabinho is up there with the very best holding midfielders in the top flight. Obviously you’ve got the Manchester City duo of Fernandinho and Rodri, with Robinson obviously being a big fan of the former. There’s also Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante, of course, Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi and West Ham United’s Declan Rice. However, it’s hard to disagree that, on current form, Fabinho is the best of them. As per WhoScored.com, the 26-year-old is averaging 2.8 tackles, 1.4 interceptions and 0.6 clearances per game this season. Furthermore, he averages 63.5 passes an outing with a hugely efficient success rate of 87.5%. His average WhoScored rating of 7.08 tells you everything you need to know about how good he has been for Jurgen Klopp’s team this campaign. The fact that, as Robinson says, the German consistently plays him even when he rotates his other two central midfielders, is testament to how highly he rates the former Monaco man.
