Former England international Paul Robinson has raved over the performances of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The Liverpool full backs were in sparkling form as the Reds battled to a 2-1 victory over Mauricio Pochettino’s side, and Sky Sports pundit Robinson was very impressed by them.

“Yeah I thought he [Alexander-Arnold] was good, you know what he can do now,” he told Football Insider. “He’s got to a level now where everyone expects him to be consistent but I thought he was outstanding, him and Robertson both caused Tottenham loads of problems.

“And while Tottenham were improved, Liverpool were the better team and they looked like they were always going to win the game.”

OPINION

Robinson is right that Liverpool were the better side on Sunday and thoroughly deserved to secure all three points at Anfield. While Spurs were better than they have been in recent weeks, they were still miles behind the Reds, particularly as the game drew on. Alexander-Arnold, in particular, was an absolute menace for Tottenham from start to finish. Yes, he could have done better in the build up to Harry Kane’s goal, but from that moment on he was superb. The statistics tell you as much. As per WhoScored.com, Alexander-Arnold completed seven key passes, knocked in 20 crosses and 14 long balls. Meanwhile, he made two tackles and two interceptions. Robertson, on the other hand, also made two tackles and two interceptions, as well as two clearances. He made two key passes, attempted five crosses and knocked six long balls forward. Pochettino’s team, like so many others have, struggled to cope with the Liverpool duo – they were superb on Sunday.
