It is not hard to see why these Liverpool fans are so gutted with the news that Joel Matip is set to miss the next six weeks’ worth of action. The Evening Standard has reported that Matip, 28, has suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee injury and might miss Liverpool’s next 10 matches across all competitions, including their clashes against Manchester City and Everton as well as their three remaining Champions League fixtures. It is a huge blow for the Reds, who have looked at their best this season when Matip has been partnered by Virgil van Dijk in the heart of Jurgen Klopp’s defence. Matip has often been as good, if not better than, van Dijk a lot of the time this season so Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren have a lot of work to do if they want to fill the void left by the colossal Cameroon international. That is what these fans are surely hoping for because they are not happy at all to hear the news about Matip’s latest injury woes.
