Harvey Elliott, Sepp Van den Berg and Rhian Brewster trained with the Liverpool first-team on Tuesday ahead of Wednesday night’s Champions League clash against Red Bull Salzburg at Anfield, according to Liverpool Echo journalist Paul Gorst.

The reporter claimed via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday that the teenage trio were put through their paces at Melwood before the match against Salzburg.

It remains to be seen if any of them are included in Jurgen Klopp’s matchday squad of the European tie but none were named on the bench last month ahead of Liverpool’s loss against Napoli in the Champions League group stage opener.

OPINION

Even if none of the three teenagers are named in Klopp’s squad on Wednesday night, it is still good experience for them to all be in and around the senior squad. Brewster, 19, is the eldest of the trio and made his first-team debut for Liverpool in the 2-0 win against MK Dons last month so hopefully there is a lot more to see from him as the season goes on. Elliott, 16, and van den Berg, 17, also made their first-team debuts but only signed for Liverpool in the summer and did not have to wait as long as Brewster did. Elliott played twice in the Premier League for Fulham last season so he is someone who is getting a lot more game-time than most 16-year-olds would get. It is probably a good opportunity to name one, two or maybe even all three of them on the bench against Salzburg, especially as it is a game that Liverpool should really be breezing to victory in if Klopp names a strong starting line-up.
