German football expert Kevin Hatchard has spoken out about the possibility of Liverpool making a move for Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller, claiming that he would be a “huge boost” for the Reds.

The World Cup winner has been linked with a move away from his home country, with journalist Christian Falk revealing that Jurgen Klopp’s side had an interest in the 30-year-old back in 2017.

And Hatchard has suggested that a move for Muller would be a good idea.

Speaking on the Blood Red podcast, he said: “I still think he is a very, very good footballer and any top Premier League team would benefit from having him in the building.

“The fluid nature of it would appeal to Muller, without question because his movement is incredible

“He’s so elusive, he picks up positions a lot of players simply don’t and I think he’d be a huge boost to Liverpool.

“I think Premier League clubs will be on alert.”

OPINION

Let’s be honest, Muller is not the player he once was. The German has faded a bit in recent times, and he is no longer an absolutely vital cgo in Bayern’s well-oiled machine. HE is yet to score in the Bundesliga so far this season, and at the age of 30, time is no longer on his side. That being said, Hatchard makes a very valid point here. Muller may not have bagged in the league, but he does have four assists already this season, averaging 2.5 key passes per game too, as per Whoscored. There are few players in the modern game who have the same level of footballing intelligence as Muller, and those attributes, unlike physical traits, do not fade. Would he start over Roberto Firmino? Of course not. But would he be a valuable asset who could potentially turn a game on its head with a cunning cameo? You wouldn’t bet against it.
