Stuart Pearce has claimed that Liverpool will still win the Premier League title comfortably, despite dropping their first points of the season in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United on Sunday.

The ex-England international believes that the Reds are still clear favourites for the title, and doesn’t see them losing more than two games this season as he questioned their chances of going unbeaten for the entire campaign.

Pearce pointed out that the two games they could lose would be the clashes with Manchester City, but suggested that having a six-point gap between the two clubs could put massive pressure on Pep Guardiola’s side.

“I think Liverpool will win the Premier League comfortably this year,” he told talkSPORT.

“I can’t see them losing more than two games. They’re still clear favourites.”

“Those could be against Manchester City, potentially, but if you go into the game against your nearest rivals with a six-point buffer, it will put real pressure on Man City to come out and play.”

“That might just suit Liverpool.”

OPINION

Liverpool are definitely still the clear favourites for the title, and Sunday’s draw against Manchester United could act as their first reality check after a perfect start to the season. The Reds were lacklustre and need to use the game against the Red Devils as an example of how they can not perform if they want to consistently maintain their gap to Manchester City in second. Liverpool will need to learn from their mistakes from last season when they surrendered a similar gap to their title-rivals from drawing too many games, something Klopp will be eager to change in this campaign. Liverpool were poor at Old Trafford but still managed to scrape a point from the game, something that will give them confidence that no matter how they play they can find a way not to lose, and that is pivotal if you are to cement your spot at the top of the table.
